Even though the changes that take place in children are so small and incremental, I swear I will sometimes see a difference from one day to another with Nathan. It helps that we see him all day every day - an opportunity I never cease appreciating. The other day he seemed to spend most of the day with his tongue out. No reason. Catching flies maybe. The next day he was holding things, more or less, and pushing them in the direction of his mouth. We have taken several toys and put them on his chest to see what happens and several times he has been able to make the connection to his face. He slobbers all over the place and is happy as can be. Teething has been suggested. I don't know, but I'm happy with his gummy smile for a while (at least while I am his sole provider of food!).
As Nate gets bigger though, so do his messes. I know it is just the beginning but lord does he do a job these days! Front end or back end, it's one or the other with him. At least I've learned how to get poopie stains out (Put it out in the sun! Thanks for the tip Sarah!) and I now understand the importance of washable items. This I never considered when picking out car seats and vibrating chairs. Good thing someone else has. They can all go in the wash!
Over the weekend we celebrated Leo's first Father's Day. Nathan gave the gift of extra sleep for us all and then I made a big breakfast, one of our favorite things on the weekend anyway. We went to the pool for a little bit and Nathan warmed up to the water faster than in the past. I think the small doses every other week has helped him get comfortable. Hopefully next time he will enjoy it more and splash and play a bit rather than look uncomfortable and a little mad.
Saturday I was invited to a friend of a friends house in the morning for a craft day. I didn't have anything prepared but thought I would go and see what other people were up to. I was so glad I went. This particular woman has MASSIVE amounts of stuff going on. Stamps, paper, etc., etc. All things that make me very happy! I stayed longer than I intended and hated to leave. I got involved in a project (that everyone will get in their mailboxes at some point) and got totally lost in the creative process. It reminded me of what I really enjoy doing. For the first time in a long time I forgot about everything and just created. It was great!
Last week we went to our friends house to see their little one - only three weeks old. How fun to hold an itty bitty baby again. How can it be that Nate was so little too, just a short time ago?!
What else . . . I'm losing my hair. Don't worry, it's part of the having-a-baby-thing. It's annoying. We are anxiously awaiting the birth of Nathan's first first cousin Logan. Oh and Nathan is officially on the grid. His Social Security card came the other day and is now a real person. Leo is opening his college fund as we speak so any contributions are welcome. And a note (for the grandparents mostly): for gifts in the future, a toy or outfit is great but funds for his future are even more important. We try not to collect too much junk around here. I'm actually in the process of cleaning out some stuff now. I hate that we have so little storage but I suppose it's harder to keep crap since there is no room for it. I'm all about that.
Tomorrow my grunty little guy will be three months old. Were does the time go? I'm anxious to take another picture of him on the couch with those pillows to see the difference. So fun to see him grow!
