Leaps and Bounds

A couple weekend ago Leo was able to enjoy his favorite Christmas gift - hockey tickets to a Devils/ Canes game. Our seats were center ice, row C, which ended up being right behind the glass of the penalty box. They were really great seats and it was especially fun to see the players up close. Many of those bad boys we saw are playing in the Olympics for the US and Canadian teams right now. Extra cool! (Thanks Dad & Jo!)

Last week we had some trouble as our little man went through some growing pains. His next two teeth got the best of him. He had some awful fevers for a few days and we all had some sleepless nights. It passed as quickly as it came and now he has two healthy stubs threatening to poke through any day now.

This past weekend we went to Nonni & Poppi Stan's house for a few days. It was nice to get away and it's the perfect distance away - just enough for Nathan to nap and we get to listen to a good chunk of our book on tape we have been at since November!

The weather was nice - it has been warming up steadily for days now. Friday night we stayed in and played some Wii. We all made fools of ourselves by flapping our wings. (You had to be there) Saturday we had a nice breakfast (delish french toast Nonni!) then went out for the day. We hit the Aquarium at Fort Fisher. It was fun to watch Nathan watch the fish. He doesn't know what's going on yet but being more a toddler than a baby he is more aware of his surroundings everyday and can point and notice new things all the time. Afterwards we stopped for some lunch and a quick visit to the beach. We let Nathan sit in the sand and yet again observe. He seemed interested in this new texture between his fingers and even started to do a little digging like a puppy would. It was a little too cold to stay for long but we can't wait to bring him back this summer. We relaxed the rest of the evening and watched some Olympics on TV. A nice getaway as always.

It seems that Nathan really does grow and develop in leaps and bounds now. He has been practicing "uh oh" when he "drops" (or throws) his cup onto the ground and he will often watch our lips when we speak as if to try to capture how exactly we make all these sounds that are words. In the last few days he seems to be aware of the top of his head and often puts his hands up there. This is cute until he has banana hands. Then he has banana hair. As if he knows that banana makes a great mousse!

He is making more confident steps all the time and finds new activities he likes too. Like laundry. He will often take the laundry out of the dryer but he doesn't have a preference for wet, dry, clean or dirty. He was sitting near a pile of dirty laundry and just started flinging it around him. When he gets to the bottom of the pile he'll turn around and throw the new pile around again. He is so engrossed in this for so long I've decided I may not do laundry for a while as long as it keeps him busy.

This week we will be waiting for some good news about the house. That's what I'm thinking about anyway. And Matt & Joey will come down for a visit next month. Always lots to look forward to around here.
